we basically took the turntables out, and plugged everyone into the DJ mixer. I used to do a party in london called NoDecks! that was based on using the existing DJ based club infrastructure to do live music. Oh my god.you must have been reading my thoughts or something, because i was just ranting to someone today about this exact subject. The 'industry' must be destroyed in order for it to be reclaimed - utopia indeed Live music is still where it's really at if you want to see who genuinely has the skills - they may well be playing the same songs each night but, when the audience can see it's really out there on the edge but still under some form of control, is where the magick remains. In an attempt to maximise profits they've also saturated the public demand to the point where it's actually devaluing the product - people don't feel intimately connected or indentify with indiviual artists because there's another 150 the exact same running on rotation all day on genre specific distribution outlets such as MTV or radio stations. And that would be a utopia, wouldn't it?Ĭertainly would - the entire 'reproductive' industry of music is what stagnates it & drives it into commercial pigeonholes of marketing and demographics. Given that music is the fundamental reason for being, everyone will pay to listen to live music for entertainment. ![]() Brightonalex wrote:Musicians would perform for people that had paid to come in and listen to it.
